Café de Flore is a love story that explores the profound and mysterious connections between people separated by time and place. The film follows the parallel stories of Jacqueline, a young mother in 1960s Paris, and Antoine, a recently divorced DJ in present-day Montreal.
In 1960s Paris, Jacqueline is a working-class woman raising her disabled son Laurent. Despite her husband abandoning them, Jacqueline embraces the challenge of raising Laurent and becomes obsessed with him. When Laurent meets a girl with Down Syndrome named Véronique, he experiences his first crush, which leads to Jacqueline's jealousy and a potentially tragic love triangle.
In present-day Montreal, Carole is a forty-year-old divorcée trying to restart her life after her divorce from Antoine, a successful DJ. Their divorce is difficult for both of them, especially for Carole's two daughters, who are torn between their parents. Carole's struggles with depression and sleepwalking make it even harder for her to move on.
