Welcome to McCarthy, the toughest town in America, located deep in the wilderness of eastern Alaska. Once known as Sin City, McCarthy is now an isolated refuge for those who don't want to be found, surrounded by extreme wilderness. Tradition clashes with transformation as some residents believe in preserving the town's frontier way of life, while others believe modernization is the key to its future.
Originally built during the Gold Rush in 1900, McCarthy was a vibrant city, but now only 42 people brave the extreme conditions to live in this secluded Old West town. It is home to bear hunters, gold miners, gun smiths, and backwoods survivalists - people willing to risk their lives for true freedom.
The residents of McCarthy have diverse reasons for living this dangerous wilderness life. Neil Darish dreams of restoring the town to its former glory, investing in properties to bring McCarthy into the 21st century. On the other hand, long-standing resident Jeremy Keller came to McCarthy to escape modern society and will fight to protect the old way at any cost.
