In the 1940s, Sweden was stunned by a scandal where two mothers discovered that their children had been switched at a hospital in Bureå, Västerbotten, and raised by the wrong families. The children were three years old when the mix-up was uncovered, and a court ruling later decided to switch the boys back when they turned seven. One of the boys involved was the cousin of the writer, PO Enquist, whose personal connection to the event has left a profound impact on him, culminating in the novel Kapten Nemos bibliotek. In this documentary, Enquist and his relatives share their perspectives on how the child swap has shaped their lives. Additionally, the film delves into the backstory of the incident, revealing a hidden secret that was far more complex than anyone could have anticipated. Directed by Agneta Bernárdzon, this film explores the emotional implications and unexpected twists surrounding the shocking event that unfolded in a small Swedish town, ultimately leaving a lasting impact on the families involved.
