Smiley is a thrilling horror film set in a college campus, following the protagonist Ashley as she navigates her new surroundings while dealing with the recent loss of her mother. As she attempts to settle into college life, Ashley encounters a group of friends, including a mysterious individual named Binder.
During a party, Ashley hears about an urban legend surrounding an online killer known as Smiley. According to the legend, Smiley can only be seen on the internet, and he kills anyone who types the phrase I did it for the lulz three times. Intrigued, Ashley and her roommate Proxy decide to test out this legend, but their experiment takes a terrifying turn with catastrophic consequences.
Following the online encounter, Ashley becomes consumed by paranoia and starts seeing Smiley everywhere. She becomes convinced that she is being pursued by a killer who may or may not be real. As the suspense escalates, Ashley grapples with the question of Smiley's existence and whether she can escape his clutches.
